Fines

Fines are charged for in demand items to help ensure fair access to resources for all library members.

Unpaid fines and fees of more than $20 will result in suspension of borrowing privileges until they are paid.

Overdue items

Loan Type Fine if overdue (inclusive of GST)
Same day, 3, 5, and 7 days $3.00 per day
2 and 3 hours 5 cents per minute
Requested item, and 3 day serials $3.00 per day

Items overdue for more than 30 days

Once an item is overdue for more than 30 days, the library assumes it is lost and you will incur the following charges per item:

  • The replacement cost of the item (refundable if returned).
  • A maximum fine of $45 for requested items and limited loans.

Overdue high demand items (such as 2 hour loans or 5 day loans) may be liable for an additional fine of $20 (up to a total of $60) each time the item is not available for a reservation.

Lost or damaged items

  • You will be requested to pay the replacement cost and a processing fee.
  • Report any items which you have lost or which have been damaged to the library from which you borrowed them as soon as possible to avoid overdue fines.

How to avoid fines

  • Know when your loans are due back - check your email regularly for notices or check My Library Account.
  • If you are away for an extended period, eg, holidays or clinical placements, make arrangements to return your items on time and check your emails regularly for notices.
  • Never lend items you have borrowed to anyone else. If they lose them or return them late, you are responsible for any fines and fees.

Contact Us

  • We consider all legitimate concerns about library charges, but you are responsible for managing your loans, returning them by the due date and paying any fines or fees incurred, as set out in the Library Statute.
  • The library is not obliged to notify you when items are overdue, though we usually do. Even if no notice has been received, a fine will be charged when items are returned late.
  • If you receive an overdue notice for an item you have returned contact the library. We will search for the book. If it is not found over a period of time we will contact you regarding the next step. If you find the item yourself contact the lending desk.
  • For queries regarding library notices and fines, visit the lending desk or contact us.
